Basic Info
Name:Locke Cole
Bio
Character Name: Locke Cole
Series: Final Fantasy VI
Gender: Male
Age: 25
Species: Human
Sexuality: Straight

Appearance: Locke is a young man with a light but athletic build. He stands at 5'9", has brown eyes and short, unruly hair of a that seems to change color depending on the lighting. Sometimes it appears brown, sometimes blond, and sometimes even gray. He can usually be seen in a black vest with matching pants, a white t-shirt underneath his vest, a colorful sash in place of a belt, and white boots. He always wears leather gloves (sometimes fingerless, sometimes not) and a blue or colorful bandana.

Personality: Locke makes friends easily, though sometimes his teasing sense of humor or casual speech rubs people the wrong way. He is loyal and trustworthy and expects the same in his friends. He's usually easy-going, but can get wound-up pretty easily too. If someone threatens one of his friends, or makes the mistake of calling Locke a "thief", you can be sure he'll have something big to say about the matter. Similarly, Locke will do everything he can for his friends, even if it means putting himself in danger. Fortunately, he's pretty good at taking care of himself. Once he gives his word, he will see it through until there's nothing he can do about it or the person he made his promise to betrays him first, and then he'll be moody and may take a while to get over it, depending on the severity.

Abilities: As a treasure hunter by trade, Locke has picked up many skills of questionable morality, leading to him often being confused for a common thief. He can pick locks, pick pockets, scale poles, sneak around unnoticed, is adept at finding secret passages, and has even been known to borrow the clothes off someone's back! Of course, since he is a treasure hunter and not a thief, he would never use these skills maliciously or for self-gratification. However, picking the lock on an abandoned chest or taking something from someone or something that's wronged him are perfectly okay.

A seasoned fighter, Locke is skilled with short-bladed and boomerang-like weapons, and is also capable of using a shield. He is agile in both his trade and combat. He does most of his pickpocketing during battle, when his foes are most distracted.

Weaknesses: Locke is protective to a fault, usually putting this desire at the top of his priorities list. He's also very trusting. Even when he does have doubts about someone's motives, that doesn't stop him from believing in them until they prove themselves untrustworthy. In combat, since Locke relies more on agility and sleight of hand, his physical prowess is underdeveloped for a melee fighter, which can be bad if he's outnumbered or overpowered and without backup. He has been known to get seasick, but not airsick. (He'd probably get carsick.)

Manhattanite or outsider? Outsider

History: Locke grew up in the small village of Kohlingen, on the western edge of the northern continent of his world. There he discovered his life's dream to become the world's greatest treasure hunter, and there he also met the love of his life, a girl named Rachel. She went with him on his treasure hunts and they planned to marry. On one such trip, Rachel saved him from falling through a crumbling bridge by pushing him to the other end of it, but in turn suffered the fall herself. Locke brought her back to the village, and when she woke up, they discovered that she had developed amnesia, and couldn't even remember who she was, let alone who Locke was.

Her parents forbade him from seeing her anymore, and they blamed him for the accident. Rachel, knowing only that they were her parents, joined them in telling him get lost. Grief-stricken, Locke left the village, and travelled around the world seeking treasure.

When he returned, he discovered the village in tatters, having been struck by an attack from the Empire from the southern continent. Rachel had died in the attack. Right before she died, she regained her memory, and the last word she spoke was his name.

Now filled with guilt at abandoning her, Locke had a villager put her body into suspended animation, while he searched for the greatest treasure of all, one with the power to call back the dead. In the meantime, the Empire was becoming a growing threat to the world's peace, and since Locke had more than just a bone to pick with them, he joined an underground resistance force called "The Returners", and became a go-between for them and Figaro, a kingdom faking an alliance with the empire.

Through a twist of fate, he met Terra, a young girl with the power of magic, unheard of in humans, and helped convince her to join the Returners as well. The Empire had been controlling her with a slave crown, a device that robbed her of all her memories and free will. When it was removed, she regained her free will, but none of her memories but her name. Reminded of Rachel and his failure to protect her, Locke swore he would protect Terra from the Empire at all costs.

Later, he met Celes, a former Imperial general turned traitor, and helped her escape from imprisonment. She was weak from mistreatment, and Locke convinced her to come with him by swearing to protect her too. She also had the ability to use magic, but not through natural means, like Terra. It made their escape much easier.

During their fight against the Empire, Locke and Celes grew close and began to fall in love. After their world was literally torn asunder and their group scattered, Locke had little purpose left in his life. There was no more Empire to fight. Just one madman ruling the world from an intimidating tower. Celes, and all of the other friends he had made, were gone, and he had no way of finding them again. He couldn't take on Kefka alone. All that was left was Rachel, and that treasure.

He found it deep inside Phoenix Cave, which had been buried underneath a mountain until the world's end. It was the Phoenix Magicite, the crystal shard which was the remains of what had once been an Esper, beings of pure magical energy in their world. Although it was filled with cracks, Locke was determined to use it to bring back Rachel.

At the same time he found the treasure, his friends, led by Celes, found him deep inside the cave and took him back with him on their airship.

In Kohlingen, the Phoenix did indeed let Rachel speak to Locke one last time, although the Magicite shattered in the process. With its gift, Rachel finally put Locke's heart at ease, allowing him to finally move on with his life. The Phoenix Magicite was reborn, and Locke used the magic it granted him to fight against Kefka.

Since Kefka's defeat, all magic and Magicite disappeared from their world. Locke and Celes began to formally cement their relationship... And then one day Locke ended up in Manhattan...
